First I’d like to share my apologies for the lack of posts and updates on A Pura Vida. Life has been really crazy busy and we are finally getting back into the groove of work, and enjoying our new place. I’ll be sharing updates on our digs, here shortly…nothing too impressive sadly at this point, but hopefully decorating will pick up here soon.

With the craziness of moving and decorating, I did want to share my recent purchase online. If you have scrolled down this far – you are probably wondering what is going on now with the new place. It should be simple right, we close, we pack and we move in. Well the latest and greatest after going back and forth on the floor is –  we decided to go ahead and get the floors stained. We just got back in town last night and we went to check out the place (we were scheduled to move in and finally unpack and not live like complete and utter gypsies today) and lo and behold, they used the wrong stain. Now this wasn’t like a shade off, it was basically special walnut instead of Jacobean. If you just googled what that means you feel my pain. Tomorrow I will be meeting with the contractor after buying a can of the right stain to show him that he did in fact use the wrong stain, (in the second bedroom that has yet to be touched) since he is trying to convince me that Jacobean always looks this way when applied.

We are so exhausted from the move, and the thought of actually having to unpack is making me dizzy, but we are excited and half way through the process. Here is a picture of the stain samples we ended up testing, and have decided to use the stain to the far bottom right, called Jacobean! Also check out the beautiful white walls in the pic!

So you probably remember me talking about staining our floors, here. We actually ended up meeting with the floor guys and when they saw our floors they thought we were literally crazy that we wanted to sand and stain. Apparently (which we didn’t realize) our floors are Brazilian Cherry, which is known for its rich beauty and durability – not to mention that this type of hardwood floor is quite expensive. After much back and forth, we decided to keep the floors as is (we are slowly getting over the fact that we won’t have the beautiful dark floors we have been lusting over), but think that this is the best decision, especially for resale value. So this gives us a couple extra days to start painting. We started painting yesterday evening, and after jamming out to some music, we managed to get 66% of the place painted.
